I've been looking forward to this day for some time, but so far it seems I'll end up disappointed at this moment...
After reading Ola's post about him developing on 900 MHz Athlon and the sim running OK, I was happy that even my computer could run it.
My computer is Athlon 1GHz on MSI K7N2 Delta board with 256 DDR RAM, GeForce4 MX 64 MB and USB Logitech WingMan joystick. I'm running Windows 2000. FS2004 runs quite fine for my purposes (I don't fly "heavy metal" and GA aircraft are not that complex).
I installed Silent Wings and run it. First surprise came when the sim crashed everytime I tried to press Apply button in Options.
Second surprise was that I couldn't add my joystick in the Joystick section of Options. It is shown in the list, but if I select it and press OK nothing happens. I tried to override that manually by editing joystick.dat and setting device = 1. Now my joystick is shown as active control, I can assign axis to control surfaces, etc., but it still doesn't work. Like if the joystick was disconnected (it isn't, works perfectly in other apps).
Third surprise was that when I tried quick flight, the FPS was between 0.5 and 5... I tried to lower the details and set smaller resolution, but there wasn't much difference. That's quite the opposite of Ola's statement.
Please, don't take this as bashing of your product. I'm programmer and addon developer for MSFS so I know how hard and time consuming is to create project like this and you have my full support.
Maybe I just overlooked something and there'll be a trivial solution to all of this, but in any case, I wanted to let you know that there could be some problems on some machines.
Best regards and good luck,
Jiri Brozek
